What would you do if you lost ALL your pictures???

As I became a parent and as I started reflecting back on my younger days, I realized how precious all my pictures were and how i hated the fact that I did not have even more pictures. I scanned all my old pics and then I quickly started accumulating a TON of pictures of my son. People say... you have to back up your files of course (Ask those people that have paid for hard drive recovery). No problem, I'll just buy an external hard drive and back up my data regularly. Problem solved! Pretty tough for two hard drives fail, right?

But then I started ponder more "what if's". What if my place has a fire? What if my place gets robbed? What if... etc. I was started to run out of excuses. I needed geographic diversification in my data back up plan and it had to be cost effective. I couldn't bear losing all the pictures of my family. My memory just isn't THAT good.

The answer was to find an online storage solution. There are so many out there. Some are free (Flickr, Picasa, Shutterfly, DropBox) and some require a subscription fee (Smugmug, Zenfolio). Bottomline is, you get what you pay for. I will breakdown a few of these options in a future post.
